What you going to do about that eye? When little Jimmy got up close and personal with a wasp, he came away with a swollen eye. My veterinarian suggested Benadryl, up to 50 mg. We heeded his advice and waited for the swelling to go down, which it did after a couple hours. If you don't like to risk medication (which should only be given on your veterinarian's advice) a natural remedy I've read about is applying a freshly sliced onion to the area. Alternatively, you could rub in one drop of ammonia water. In a pinch, you could use ammonia-based window cleaner, according to "Natural Health for Dogs & Cats." The herbal treatment is to rub in a drop of nettle extract directly on the sting.

Chamomile Tea!!!! Old German remedy, works on so much!!! Brew a bag of plain old Chamomile tea, make it really strong, let cool, use cotton ball(s) to make nice cold compress on the area. Good German woman always has Chamomile tea on hand....LOL
Alles Liebe von Deiner deutschen Schwester :)
PS....Nita tries to EAT wasps! She goes after them and tries to catch them in her mouth. I am TERRIFIED of what would happen if she ever catches one!

I've heard about that one, too! Zach is frightened of all flying insects. He runs and hides. I've been trying to teach Jimmy to eat them (flies). Did not think about the wasps. Vielen Dank, liebe Schwester!

Yeah, better NOT to teach them to eat anything that flies! Tula is the BEST fly catcher, you know, those huge black NOISY ones that fly around REALLY slowly...man, she is awesome at catching those and then she eats them....extra protein?

Hey Joy, it's true about Windex, according to my first-aide book. But I'd never heard about it before then. Little Jimmy was fine after a few hours. I think he'll stay away from wasps from now on. He's a fast learner.

Very true, and very good for most any bug bites, the ammonia neutralizes the venom. :) I always keep ammonia around, and I believe crushed mullein leaf will work well too. Also tobacco, must be wet though. YUCK, glad I don't "chaw" LOL...
hope Jimmy is feeling better. My bunch think they are the "great"hunters and chase anything that can't out run them. Includes scorpions and they love the way a centipede moves. Bleh, now I have the creepy crawlies.

Poor guy. Our dog has never tried to eat a wasp. Thank God. Does Medical insurance cover this sort of thing? When you have to take the dog in for silly things like this, you have to wonder if some sort of coverage would be a good idea.
