OMG, Pete is the cutest thing ever!!! It's killing me that you haven't found a home for Joe yet. I'm so tempted and I can't afford to be.

After having Nova for a week, I finally let her out onto the 10 acres to play and graze with the goats. I think she is my dream horse. :-) Music by Enigma

Oh my God Susan. This is the most horrible thing to read at the start of the day. This turns my stomach. The shelter is supposed to be the SAFE ZONE for these animals for god's sake. God this makes me want to disembowel the humans involved. ..... ...

Profile Information

What kind of pet do you have and what's his or her name?
Tigger, Ginger and SweetPea the dogs, Tony Goat and Murphy Goat. And forever aching from the passing of my beloved goat Isaac. (and now missing my good horse friend Zoe and mini-mule Molly)

For the summer of 2009 we are fostering my daughter's cat Bonnie. She is a joy and love. Once my daughter returns from Korea in September, she and Bonnie will be reunited.

Always been a country girl at heart, and now I'm becoming a hermit to boot!

I moved to "the country" south of Santa Fe in November of 2006, specifically so that I could have happier dogs and maybe a horse again. Well, my dogs are definitely happy, and I was briefly blessed with the most amazing goat that my daughter named Isaac. Isaac brought many people together, with his charm, shenanigans, and because of his indomitable spirit. Many of his videos and tributes can be seen on Isaac's YouTube page (here). Isaac's life is now being honored in ways we never could have imagined. Very cool!

Since then, two new little rascals have joined me and the dogs, Tony and Murphy (goats). They are becoming quite popular in the local parades.

I've been so fortunate to share my space with many, many incredible critters through my years, each one bringing something unique to my life. I truly believe that when it's my turn to cross over, all those critters will be waiting for me, whinnying, barking, meowing, and now "bleating." I will be thrilled to hear each of their voices.

THE DEATH OF AN ANIMAL COMPANION

Printed in PETroglyphs newsleter, Spring 2007

by Steffie Grow, MSW

Millions of people now consider animal companions to be a part of their family. Animals provide joy, friendship, and unconditional love that brightens our lives and adds a dimension of fulfillment unique to these special relationships.

Given this deep connection, it is only natural that we grieve when our animal companion dies. Yet those of us suffering such a deep loss are often left feeling misunderstood and al… Continue

wtf IS SO HARD TO UNDERSTAND???

This is addressed to all breeders of dogs, cats, horses, goats, guinea pigs, birds, etc etc etc. You KNOW we live in a throw-away society, right? Then WHY do you continue to bring new lives into this world when there aren't enough homes for the creatures ALREADY HERE???? I DO NOT understand the rationale. Cannot begin to comprehend it. Backyard breeders, AKC breeders, puppy mill breeders, people that let their unneutered pets run at large...... you are all on the same page in my book. I don't ca… Continue

Know what tularemia is.

This will be short because there are so many more important issues on this discussion board right now.

This is just a heads-up to know what tularemia is (a bacterial infection much like the plague and spread by fleas and ticks and infected meat). My sweet dog Ginger probably has tularemia. We will know for sure when the blood tests come back, but in the meantime they treat as if the animal has the disease. Rounds of antibiotics. But its BEST if you catch it soon. Knowing how the people on this… Continue
