UNchain Santa Fe County NM!! There will be a Town Hall meeting about the proposed Animal Control Ordinance on Wed April 17, 6:30 pm, at the Nambe Community Center, located at 180 A State Road 503 in Nambe. This new ordinance would make the 24/7 stationary tethering of a dog ILLEGAL! Please find the time in your schedule to make a show of support....for them ♥

Donna said… Okay, so here is what happened in San Miguel County the home of the infamous Las Vegas City Shelter. The passed the anti chaining law ~yeah~ and it went into effect in March of this year ~yeah~ and then......and then.....no one could tie their dogs up. And no one could afford to fence their yards. And so, the dogs ran freeeeee and were picked up by Animal Control, until the City Shelter had no place to put another dog. I've been told, and I will admit to "hear-say, 3rd party reporting" that they don't even bother to bring them into the building and euthanize them on the truck. Before we get what we wish for - we need to know exactly what it is we are asking for.
Bill Litzenberg said… Hi Deb! Good to hear from you. I actually didn't meet Toby's owner. His Mom made the connection and came and picked him up. She was pretty exasperated, too, thought he really needed to address Toby's issue seriously.
Updating: Your little buddy Cleo has grown into a wonderful adult. She's totally reliable with grandchildren of the youngest ages. She gets a little huffy when dogs drop by uninvited, but has never once roamed away from our property, though she's out on the loose as much as she wants when we're home, no electric fence needed. Never need a leash when we walk around here. Travels cross-country with me to Michigan and back each summer, behaves well in motels. Got over chewing things to pieces as a teenager without any special effort on our part. Is overly-obsessed with fetching. When she goes into withdrawal she does her hypnostist's stare on me until I relent. Funny thing is, she only needs a few throws to satisfy her addiction, then tells me we're done. Your star pupil has become an exemplary big girl . Thanks!
Bill
