Ray has such an amazing insight. I just grew up feeling that connection with dogs, but it has been there for eons and with horses and cats too. Where would we humans be without them? Thanks to the Horse Shelter for taking care of those left to fend…

Yukon looks like a most wonderful dog! I think you are right: horses, dogs and cats have been connected to people for ages. I fear that many people are losing touch with this remarkable connection. How could anybody abandon horses like the ones who…

The Horse Shelter does such great work. When I came upon an abandoned horse on the Caja they were very helpful getting me in contact with the right authorities to get the horse some help. http://www.thehorseshelter.org/

Here are photos of horses who were abandoned and recently arrived at The Horse Shelter. I think that the two mares, Shadow and Mouse might be part Mustang. What do you think?

The Horse Shelter November 25, 2009

I went to The Horse Shelter today and it was wonderful to spend time with the horses. I saw many of these horses when they arrived in terrible shape and have seen them return to health - both emotionally and physically. Here are some photos:

friend seeking dog

I have a friend who recently lost a King Charles Spaniel and is looking to get another one. I hope that she can find a rescue dog rather than buying one. If you come across a spaniel in need, please contact me. My friend would provide the best home and already has two rescue dogs.

cat bed

I just bought a big, cushy bed for Joe. He has been lolling about in it all evening. Maybe he won't feel as though he has to perch on an office chair all night now.

Thanks to everyone for your interest in Joe!

Judy- Thank you for posting this picture of our wonderful horses! Just so you all know Judy is a very giving volunteer who not only photographs our horses but also rides and turns her gentle hands to help rehabilitate them.
Claudia - thank you, we are looking for donations for our auction at the fundraiser in May.

Hi again!
Judy, for the upcoming fundraiser at the horseshelter, have we donated a 5K Service Certificate for that yet? If you are having a silent auction or something like that, please stop by and pick one up!

Hi Judy, it's Claudia from Toy Auto Man....

I loved the pictures of the horses with the bit-less bridles.

I have absolutely ZERO experience with horses, never been around any.

But last summer, I had my nephew here from Germany and we took him horse back riding at Broken Saddle, down in Cerrillos, owned by Harald Grantham, a WONDERFUL customer of ours and the FIRST thing I noticed was that he rides his horses without a bridle as well, which I LOVED.

It was my first and last time on a horse....I just don't belong on one, I was terrified the whole time, even though Harald's horses are sweethearts and Harald was VERY patient with me, but it's just not my thing :)
