You had no way of knowing if you'd open old wounds, and given a choice, the one you made was the best. The lady you spoke with may have been given a different story about her (or the family) pet that doesn't now jive with what you told her. Or per...

Yikes! I didn't consider the angle of opening old wounds...so many different angles to everything in life...3 years ago, wow! I would have called too though....

Well of course I called but I waited until Friday. I brought it up because I talked to a friend about it with a different perspective. He had said they may have already come to terms, come up with a story of what they decided must have happened an...

Hi, Julie. I believe we became acquainted via craigs when I had this same thing happen to me. Only I found the cat (deceased) with the tag that had her name and number. I'd certainly call the number and with any luck at all, it won't be disconnect...

PS: The dog may have just lost it and may be alive and safe? We once lost Nita's tags (and collar) up in Taos on a hike and had to get her all new ones, never found them...

Profile Information

What kind of pet do you have and what's his or her name?
Maggie was a Springer Spaniel mix and my heart dog who died unexpectedly in 2006 at age 12. I found her at 4 mos old after she'd been dumped at Magone Campground in Oregon.
Marlin is a Border Collie mix who was one of my SFAS foster dog I adopted in 2002.
Kisha is a Border Collie mix who was one of my Espanola AS foster dogs who I adopted in 2008.
Emma was a Sharpei-Chow-Akita-Italian Greyhound (DNA test confirmed) mix who I found hit by a car on Hwy 285 and took to SFAS in 2003. I ended up nursing her back to health and adopting her. She died from mast cell cancer and maybe too much gleevac on 9-11-08 at age 5.

What would you do if you found this?

I found this Thanksgiving morning in an open space where I take my dogs for a walk that has a lot of coyote activity. Notice it's faded and rusted. It'd been out there at least a year. There is a pet's name and phone number on the tag.

Global Acts of Kindness

Great article Ben. What wonderful work this couple does! True there's still a lot of work to be done here, but my hope is as we make progress in the US we can start sending more and more support to other countries. I've worked in Africa, mostly the Congo Basin and the circumstances of the dogs in the urba… Continue

Hi, Julie. I agree with you about the name of the Dumb Friends League. You're probably familiar with the term 'deaf and dumb' with dumb meaning unable to speak. I decided to check what I thought was the main site but that took me to the Colorado site with their explanation of why they don't change it. I understand, but wish they'd change it anyway. People would adjust.

Hi Julie, thanks! I think Rico converted Stephen all by himself...and you should see Stephen NOW with little Max....but then we are ALL smitten with that little guy! Nita is so heads over heels with him, it is a JOY to watch!
