"Great idea!  So on the flip side, what is the trick to keep roaming CATS out of a person's yard and using my garden as a kitty litter box?  I guess if I have a pack rat problem I have the remedy though.  :-)"

Profile Information

What kind of pet do you have and what's his or her name?
Maggie was a Springer Spaniel mix and my heart dog who died unexpectedly in 2006 at age 12. I found her at 4 mos old after she'd been dumped at Magone Campground in Oregon.
Marlin is a Border Collie mix who was one of my SFAS foster dog I adopted in 2002.
Kisha is a Border Collie mix who was one of my Espanola AS foster dogs who I adopted in 2008.
Emma was a Sharpei-Chow-Akita-Italian Greyhound (DNA test confirmed) mix who I found hit by a car on Hwy 285 and took to SFAS in 2003. I ended up nursing her back to health and adopting her. She died from mast cell cancer and maybe too much gleevac on 9-11-08 at age 5.

Dog abused in Espanola - if you are appalled, contact the RA sheriff

This is a very sad case of animal abuse and there may never be justice for this dog.

A dog was shot in January and his hind legs were paralyzed.  He dragged and chewed off his legs over 4 months, until finally someone brought the dog to the Espanola Animal Shelter.

Public outcry over the guys who killed a dog with a chainsaw in front of children outside of Farmington helped to push the prosecuters to pursue the case.…

Circus with Animal Abuse Violations Comes to Albuquerque

Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey Circus is coming to Albuquerque.  It was orginally going to be in Rio Rancho at Santa Ana Star Casino but authorities there put a stop to it after they realized the circus had animal abuse violations and it would violate city animal ordinances.

Expo New Mexico stepped in and said they'd host the circus, and KOAT reported today that Expo NM has gotten more phone calls for the circus than against it so they see it as a positive move.  If you'd…

Julie, no, the Apache Rd where I saw Pepper is not on Hwy 14...not near Kindred Spirits at all...it's in the Casa Alegre neighborhood across from Pueblo Alegre, which is across from Frenchy's Field on Agua Fria....I think someone should set a trap for Pepper perhaps even in my neighborhood...you could put it near my house...

Hi Julie,

thanks for trying, but my first name is MicheleElys, not Michele! in french it is Michele'elys. I changed the apostrophe due to computers. I get 4 syllables instead of the usual 2 or 3. I am confounded why people cut my name in half. lOLOL

Thanks MicheleElys......................

I think slowly, especially given there are many moving into this state and want better service and better product, also willing to start their own business, change will exact it's self. I am hoping for a faster pace. Then maybe a more conscious effort can be placed with our beloved animals, who indeed in many ways are our teachers, in a most profound demeanor.

Thank you for writing. Please do not take my silence as that I am offended, this only means I am very busy.

Take care, MicheleElys < first name, not Michelle. Thanks

Hi Julie,

Yes, Colorado did step up their regulations in 1980's, and they are tough. Sometimes, overly aggressive and good dogs get targeted. I know I was there for 27 years with my wonderful Rottweilers. While my dogs had a good reputation, I had to deal with the ignorance and at times stupidity of humans; although it was minor, considering.

NM, has always, since I can remember had a horrific problem with animals. The state is duly undereducated, for most feel the life will change from a calmer state to a New Yorker state of mind. That is impossible! New Mexico will never be a New York LOLOL. However, indecently ignorance only begets ignorance and oft time’s violence, such as my neighbor and his drinking and dog handling.

Hi Julie,

I am sorry to see that Virginia is no longer a member - this was a logs to all of us.

I was never upset regarding my Drunken neighbors dog, my absences has been that I am busy and once or three times yearly, I write something on this blog.

To assuage all ill feelings and questions. My friend, who wished to remained as the Cap Crusader, picked up the puppies. We fought for a couple a month over the condition of the mother who was moved to the other side of the house with another dog, but very poor conditions. A neighbor and I continued our calling and quest to improve both dogs condition of living in squalor. This was difficult, one being is it better for dogs to have semi-shelter, food water and sometimes a child to play with or would these dogs be better off at the animal shelter.

People who live in an co-dependent life of alcohol are difficult and violent to deal with and this man, home, neighbor are my neighbors.

We have made progress. Both dogs now go into the house for a respite. The dog run is cleaned occasionally, better than before. Both are bathed and have water and food and not in horrific weather conditions.

No this is not the way many of us treat our dogs, they are family, they are the loves the babies of our lives. They sleep in special beds if not our own, and travel in our cars where every stop they are given treats.

But for these two dogs, we have several people including myself, who drive by daily monitoring the situation. We have to be careful because the owners are violent drunks. At times we tread carefully. This man has threatened me as I go by, but not always, only when he is drunk. Other times, when I pull into my drive his wife waves to me. People and pets are a juggling act. At least the best outcome, is the mother is fixed (no more puppies) and they are being taken care of, humanely.
