Pet Foster Parent Training

Fostering is a great way to help out a homeless pet without the time or financial commitment of having a permanent pet. The Espanola Valley Humane Society places nearly 1,000 animals into foster care each year, and foster parents are crucial to our ability to save lives. We especially need foster homes for 2-week periods in April and May (but also throughout the summer) for small breed dogs, puppies and kittens. The shelter covers all medical expenses and provides food while these little ones…See More

Nina Chiotasso commented on Ben Swan's blog post Another push to find Pepper!
"Julie, that is where Madison was hiding and when they set traps for her, they caught two other dogs first, so there must be a food source. If there are no other updates, I'll spend some time in that area mid-week with my friendly dog when I am…"

Nina Chiotasso commented on Claudia Inoue's blog post Can you help reunite this dog and its owner?
"The dog is microchipped and the microchip company has been called to report the dog stolen, which means that, unfortunately, the pup has not been brought to a shelter, or he would have been reunited with his owner."

What kind of pet do you have and what's his or her name?
I have three cats- Mercury, Regan and Ginger, one Australian Cattle Dog- Billie, an American Staffordshire Terrier (pit bull)- Lill (who is also the Espanola Valley Humane Society mascot), and currently, one hospice cat and two foster kittens. Plus I have the pleasure of working with 4300 cats and dogs at my job at Espanola Valley Humane Society- it's hard not to take them all home!

Disappointing closure on the Jack case

Update on Jack: His owner's attorney filed a motion saying that Jack had no visible injuries when he was surrendered to the shelter. Although EVHS provided photos showing clearly that this was not the case, the investigating deputy failed to show up at the hearing with our photographs and statements, and the case was dismissed. Jack has been adopted by our vet Gretchen Yost, but we are truly saddened to hear that justice was not…

Hi Nina, you did such an amazing job - sorry my Sweet Sade's birthday party interfered with my timing. I am more of a worker than a person who can sit and gab; so please next time if I am not recovering from surgery, give me jobs to do continually. Am so glad there were adoptions, I had wish Tiny could have been one of them; he is such a great loving sweet Rottie. I cannot take on a Rottie at this time with two surgeries coming up this year and it broke my heart!!! what a sweet sweet Boy he is. Wish you were closer, I could give the rest of Sweet Sade's Doggy Peanut Butter cake to the dogs. Great job Nina, you have such a huge heart.

Never mind Nina. That member just deleted about a dozen comments from her page, one of which proclaimed that there are plenty of people that are willing to care for and donate to shelters. I thought that statement was pretty mind-boggling.

Hi Nina! I'd like for you to check out a conversation that is ongoing at the following:

Maybe you can comment on how 'well-funded' your Humane Society is.
Thanks, and hope to see you and Lill soon.
