I hope the doggie's rescuers have done the usual to try to find the owner. Keeping my fingers crossed his family is found.

Hello om. Is it a recent wound? If so has he been taken to the vet yet? If not some vet's may discount or better. Sangre de Cristo has (had?) an Angel Fund, and you could maybe try Smith or Gruda. They've always been very generous and sometimes ha...

Hi Om, you are right and I have no illusions about the task ahead. In this case I would start with the very simplest thing, just asking current riders if they have dogs and would appreciate some added functionality. Federal law has nothing to say...

Did you notice how old this post is and how few comments it generated? I live in the near the train station and talked to neighbors and strangers about it and found very little interest. Folks riding a train here in the 'Wild West' rather then sit...

Hi Om. How do you know there is not much interest? In any case, a first step could be just to get people interested, which does not have to start after the train operator and local authorities are interested. For example, this is also happening r...

I am afraid there is not enough interest. Local folks seem simply unfamiliar with the idea. In my personal survey I got disheartened in trying to make this an issue, but being European born it seems a no-brainer.

I must confess that I have not been aware of this issue... but as an animal lover, and a Europe lover, I definitely things pooches and other animals should be allowed on the Rail Runner. Thanks Todd for your suggestions... I am working on some ot...

Hello U!

I like your new page!
Today is a very good day indeed...
Molly was in good hands at the Santa Fe Animal Shelter when I called there this morning.
She is very happy to be back with us and we are relieved.
What a great service that is provided here, Santa fe is a very pet friendly town with rules.
Thank you so much for your friendship, your assistance and the pet advice.

I really appreciate all you have done for us and for taking my call last night.

XO, Shana

Kindred Spirits Animal Sanctuary
Kindred Spirit Upcoming Event, September 27.:
Check out the images I took earlier this year, what an amazing, deserving sanctuary, what a wonderful woman Ulla is and now Nail is one of her helpers. Kindred Spirit so deserves our support.

Dear Om,
Thanks for your comments.
I think you misunderstood my thoughts. I DO NOT want to have mandartory classes for anyone. I am attempting to implement the AKC Canine Good Citizen Test in our classes so if dog owners would like to take it , it is a certificate that they can have to bring their dog to "dog friendly" places and events in the case there is an "at large" animal that attacks a trained, leashed dog and there can be consequences for the owner of the visious, off dog leash , dog that attacks the trained, on lead dog. Does that make sense?
I am not interested in making money through our classes. If anything I just break even with the classes. charge a reasonable rate, pay for assistant trianers,, keep the classes small, provide holistic treats, handouts, a diploma, ect.. We have always given a 10% to 15% discount to all rescue amd shelter dogs in our classes.
I just want their to be consequences for dog owners that take their (off leash) dogs to trails and public dog friendly areas, who attack friendly dogs that are trained and on leash. My therapy dog was attacked 3 times while on lead by very aggressive dogs with very irresponsible dog owners and nothing has happened to these individuals.

Thanks for the dog park link, Om, I'll add it. I wish people could freely add links, but we're kind of limited with this site. We're working on things ...

Profile Information

What kind of pet do you have and what's his or her name?
Isabella or Schnuggliputz, a female probably Wheaton Terrier Mix I brought home from the Santa Fe Animal Shelter October 23. 2006. She is my very first dog ever and I love her gentle, generous heart.

Sumo or Schnuegge, a male Yorky?Maltese/Poodle mix , a former neighbor's dog that visited us for the first time exactly 1 year ago, just when I was wondering about finding a companion for my girl, as she is so outgoing. My girl loves him, has shared everything with him to the point of letting him have her bed and settling in front. I put a stop to that though!

Saemi, a gorgeous black, luck bringing cat is with us since February 15th. We thought it was the famously lost kitty from our street, but as it turned out he was not the one and the Shelter eventually did connect me with an owner in Colorado and by the end of the month we might see if Saemi is a permanent member of our household. Meanwhile the three are learning how to get along with the kitty quickly having established it's rank.

Snake Sighting at the Dog Park

Today Monday around noon we came upon a very long yellowish, patterned snake on the lower trail that parallels the arroyo. It was lying across the trail and then had still plenty to body left to curl up in to. It did not seem to be bothered by our approach, or by my little Sumo-boy jumping right over it! No rattles, so I assume it was a benign Bullsnake. Still a shock to come upon a snake, I had assumed that it was too cold for them now? Bullsnakes have been sighted before on that lower trail, b… Continue

Lost at the Dog Park

Last night, 8.11.09 just around sunset, a 6 month old black Poodle mix got spooked and ran of like lightening and seemingly never found his way back to his custodian. It was only their 2. visit to the dog park, up on the grate, he wore a red harness and was small, with a distinct face and real cute. Please keep your eye open and report to the shelter if you see or hear of him.

Eye to Eye with a black bear cub!

On our way to the Big Tesuque Trail, just past the Hyde Park Info Cabin, I noticed a black roly-poly bear cub amble down the hill intent on crossing the road as he notices me in my van approaching in snail tempo, our eyes lock for a moment and the bear turns to run back up the hill. Later the ranger told me they had caught one ferocious black cub the night before, around 11 PM and the one I seen might have been a sibling. I never seen a bear up so close, this powerful wild animal was an amazing… Continue
