Hello Everybody, Spent yesterday bringing shelter dogs to Santa Fe....along with Marti Nash, AWC....we moved 7 dogs out of LV....6 from shelter...1 owner released. We placed 4 large adult dogs at Braemarr kennels. I will post photos and bios. These 4 need homes asap. John Marr is very kind and generous. He invites us to board at risk animals with him. Thank you many times John. Please consider these 4 for adoption or foster. We cannot leave them at Braemarr long. Just not fair to John's… Continue
Remember our Dog Park Arroyo Mutt, Checkers alias Roscoe?
I just learned this from an ad on Craig's list posted January 29th:
Remember the dog rescued from the park December 16 2009, that I helped find a home for? Well, I got a call today (I was listed as emergency backup) that his owner is in the hospital, indefinitely. Now,… Continue
I think this is the only way to respond to all the comments I received, since I posted my first blog. I wanted to tell every one of you, how touched I am for your concern and for lending me a hand to help me in this situation. I am deeply moved and grateful for this community of dog loving people. Thank you Richard for your sweet phone call this morning and thank you Claudia, and all the others who have reached out to me.
I know from these responses that there is this special one out… Continue
A pack of three greeting us passing through Borders parking lot yesterday. I learned the 3 are 3 1/2 years, 3 years and 1 year old and on their way for an exciting walk up the mountain, probably in plenty of snow. They sure looked cute, the three of them greeting us.

Article I just found on thehorse.com. Lots of food for thought here. So depressing. So many horses, not enough homes....

I hate blue tarps. Ask most people what comes to mind when they see a blue tarp, and I suspect they will say, "camping," or "shade." When I unfold a tarp and hear that rusty plastic rattle, I see the stains of fluids of decay; I smell death. Blue tarps cover the corpses of my… Continue
I am new to this forum and I am sad that I just joined it, with a difficult request to begin with.
I have been the mom to a wonderful 2 year old red heeler boy, whom I rescued from an unfortunate situation. Even so I had already three rescued dogs back then, he stole my heart in a blink and my efforts to find him a forever home, were put to rest.
Now I am at this cross road a second time, as my life has made a huge turn. I now have a family who came with their own set of two… Continue
Thank you all very much. I am getting 6 dogs out tomorrow to Braemarr and will be gone all day. Did not have time to get primary points for letter writing campaign today. Will meet with Lisa and Tina on Sunday or Monday and send them. APNM is aware of what is going on at shelter. I will know more when Sherry calls me. Definitely will bring Larry Barker in but first must get Animal Welfare Coalition to take over adoption and transport. If I blow the whistle the city will forbid me to get dogs… Continue
Thank you those who have replied. I will send main ideas for letter writing this afternoon. We need fosters and adopters. The fee to adopt is around $35....the fee to foster is nada because the dog or cat will be released under a rescue 501 c....we need transport to get dogs out when rescues can help....next tuesday a Colorado rescue is coming to Pueblo, Co to take 2 Las Vegas dogs and 2 Santa Fe rescue org. dogs....we need a dog loving driver with a SUV, covered truck, van, etc...We have… Continue
It was such a beautiful day on Tuesday. Horses were napping in the sun and it was too warm to wear a jacket. Here are some photos I took on Tuesday afternoon. Pippi Longstocking (about 8 months old now) is so friendly and curious. She dumped the grooming kit and checked each item out carefully. Tom Thunder (about 7 months old now) pulled a stick off of one of the trees in his paddock and brought it to me. All of these wonderful horses are available for adoption.… Continue
Hello Everyone, So sorry to have been silent for so long. When things are very hard, I tend to go underground. Scorpio tendency. Since late August, there has been one attack after another. Everything we achieved and planned for welfare of shelter animals has been blocked or distorted. I could go through whole sequence but I am very tired. Simply, the Director of City Shelter would rather all dogs and cats were euthanized than any effort put forward to care for, adopt or transfer them. His name… Continue
The SPCA has a wonderful program called Operation Baghdad Pups... born of the pleas of a US serviceman for help in rescuing a Baghdad dog when his company was leaving the city. The dog had become very special to the unit, and its love and affection had helped them get through many, many tough days in Baghdad... the soldier couldn't think of leaving the dog behind. And the SPCA came through, sending staff and working with airlines to achieve the… Continue
This beautiful girl desperately needs a quiet foster home for a few months while we treat her for heartworm. She was found wandering around the streets in Hattiesburg MS and brought to the shelter. The shelter staff all love her, but can't afford to treat her and there have been no offers of adoption. She clearly had a family at one point and I can't let her die in a shelter because she became a burden… Continue
Tom is a fabulous, 4 year old brown tabby neutered male. He was selected out of our cat room here at the shelter last year when we were very full to be the official Espanola shelter mouser. However, as time goes by, Tom has less interest in mousing and more interest in eating. He eats anything and everything he can find, and at the shelter, there are always morsels. Because we are unable to keep him away from loose kibbles, he has gone from a solid… Continue
After last week’s near tragedy of dog Bella being spooked and running away at the unfenced dog park on the north end of town, I felt compelled to post this. Luckily, Bella was found after 3 days out in the cold and snow!
There is an alternative to the unfenced dog park. There is a wonderful park to let your dog off leash, COMPLETELY fenced, out by the Santa Fe Animal Shelter on Caja del Rio.
Beauty is a sweet girl looking for a good home she is house broken had her shots and is ready to love you she is a bit shyer than her sister Tink. Shep/Lab mix-size 35+ lbs.

Hey friends. I'm posting this here in hopes of getting people excited about this event. This is the first in what I hope will be a great opportunity for animal lovers to get together and share ideas and resources on a regular basis at the shelter. Please offer input on future events, and try to attend next Sunday's event if you can. It should be fun.
It’s a secret that most dog trainers gladly share — a tired dog is a good dog. But how do you get there?
