On January 23, 2012 I lost my dear Pug Chooie, she was only six-years-old and like a child to me. Chooie died after having her teeth cleaned at a Veterinarian who has been in business for thirty years, Dr. Stan Heyman of Northside Veterinary Clinic in Santa Fe.

Please help me make sure these dogs are okay. For the past couple of months I have noticed a homeless man (brown coat) with a shepherd mix on a leash on Cerillios and the dog has been limping badly. Today, I saw him again and now the dog cannot walk on that foot plus he had two other dogs on leashes that looked farily well kept. These dogs cannot belong to this man. I called 955-2700 to report suspected animal abuse; however, I had to wait until I was home as I didn't have my cell. The…Continue
A lot of animals end up euthanized in Los Angeles, especially cats.
This just came to me from the Espanola Humane Society, I thought it was worth sharing:
A true happy ending! Cinnamon came into our shelter yesterday afternoon, skinny and scared. As we do with all incoming pets, we scanned her for a microchip and she had one, so we called the owners. Turns out this sweet girl had been missing for more than three months. They came over to get her right away and it was a very happy reunion. This was the only…Continue

In November 2011 two mares and two fillies arrived at The Horse Shelter. We named them Blossom, Amber, Giselle and Lupita. They are still pretty wild, but they are learning that sometimes people have carrots or something good to eat in a bucket. As you can see from the following photos (taken Monday, January 9) they are very cute. Amber, the brown mare with a white face, has developed a particular fondness for trainer Tom Larson.…Continue

Hi everyone. We are renewing our effort to find Pepper, who was adopted in December but ran off from his new owner Dec. 23, 2011, while on a walk on El Rancho Road near West Alameda. We have had many sightings, but no luck in catching this fearful and shy dog. We are hoping to mimic Steve's success in finding Zorro by narrowing down Pepper's location. I put an ad in today's New Mexican (Free!) and then used Pet Amber Alert to call about 500 people in the area. The service has been awesome…Continue
I saw a small lost dog today in the Kearny Elementary neighborhood (Ave. de las Campanas). It had reddish and white fur. Could be a terrier mix. It looked disheveled (had dirt on it) and anxious - has possibly been lost or abandoned for a while. I called animal control, but according to the shelter they didn't pick it up. The shelter said they would have animal control continue to patrol that area.

She was last seen in a Gold Kia in the Agua Fria and Lopez Lane area. Please help us by keeping your eyes open for her.
Toby has been reclaimed by his family! Thanks to the shelter for connecting the finders with the losers!
A very sweet Husky-type male showed up at our door last night. He seems a young adult with white feet and face. He has no ID and a scan at The Ark revealed no ID chip. No lost husky reported to Animal Shelter. He has a distinctive collar by which owner can verify identity.
