Foster for Honey?

Honey is aptly named, she is a sweet honey of a dog.  But, having been "dumped" at Clovis animal control her life was forfeit.  Her pups were taken away, she was still full of milk, scared and shut down.  We pulled her. She's about 1 and half years old,35 lbs, stocky, low to the ground, sweet face, soulful eyes. Curious, sweet, taking it slow.  She bound herself to Canyon, the oldest dog in the house, the most gentle.  They sleep together in the crate.  She will warm up in a few days.  I hateto… Continue

Marshall Chapter 16. He Likes Mozart But Not The B-52's by Susan R. Stoltz

I often play music while I’m cleaning house, straightening my desk or doing other menial chores that don’t require much thought.

Yesterday I was feeling rather funky and put one of my favorite CD’s into my Mac – The B-52’s. Love Shack happens to be one of my favorite numbers, and I like to rock out – “I got me a car, it’s as…

Update on missing collie found yesterday

He

Help! The non-collared collie that followed me around the Frank Ortiz park north of SF and home has now disappeared from my yard in the nearby Casa Solana neighborhood. He is quite athletic and may have jumped out of the almost six foot tall fence. I'm still trying to find his owner. If you see him, please coax…

Anyone know this dog?

Hi Scoop fans,

This loving Collie mix followed me clear around the northside dog park off of Camino de la Crucita this morning and then jumped in my truck. I kept asking people if they knew the dog and kept listening for someone yelling for a dog. To no avail. Some people said the dog has been seen wandering around the park the last couple of days. It was hungry but sweet and with a coat and teeth in good condition. No collar or other ID. If anyone knows who the dog belongs…

Purebred Australian Shepherd puppies going up for adoption soon

Since it is not often Espanola Valley Humane receives entire litters of purebred puppies, I figured Id take the chance to brag about these beautiful pups and try to spread the word that they are going up for adoption in 2 weeks. They were brought to us when the owner went to jail, so they have been in foster care for…

SF County Resolution to BAN steel-jaw animal traps - Hearing on Feb 22

Santa Fe County Commissioner, Kathy Holian recently sent this email out.  Attend if you can, or email Kathy your support:  Kathleen.Holian@comcast.net .  One of my dogs was nearly caught in an illegal baited trap on the Santa Fe National Forest in Santa Fe County, 10 feet from a road.  Legal traps must be tagged with the trappers name or trapper # and checked every 24 hours.  This trap had no number and I turned it over to Forest Service law…

Recent Adoptions at The Horse Shelter February 2011

It has been my pleasure to see a variety of people come to The Horse Shelter and find the horse of their dreams. People come for a visit or they volunteer for a while and take their time getting to know the horses who live at The Horse Shelter.

There are so many horses to choose from! The Horse Shelter currently has 50 horses. Most of these horses have so much potential. Many are young, healthy, affectionate and gentle. There are registered quarter horses and Appaloosas still waiting…

Jacko and acupuncture for PTSD

I just noticed my foster cat Jacko listed in today's Pet Connection under Felines&Friends. He just got his 3rd acupuncture treatment today and I was telling Dr Audrey Shannon that he is a new cat. Jacko has been suffering from extreme anger and what I can only call PTSD - post-traumatic stress disorder. He landed at the Espanola shelter last July when a neighbor found him locked in the shed next door after the family moved away.  Several people mentioned that they thought he was in…

Update on SB11 (Dogs on Patios)

Thank you to everyone that has contacted Senator Ingle to urge him to support this bill. He claims that the feedback he is getting from his district is overwhelming against allowing dogs to dine on outside restaurant patios. Please Please if you have not done so  contact him (phoning at this point might be best) to urge him to support this bill AND spread the word! Perhaps talk it up at the dog park on this beautiful day. Let's be positive and perhaps approach it from a…

Amy Died This Morning...

...I only had her 12-hours.  She came from Farmington, off the "rez", she was on a list of dogs-in-danger sent out by a helpful sole trying to get them into rescue. She was the last one who wasn't spoken for.  Dew Paws Rescue said "sure", send her down!  Relay from Farmington to ABQ, ABQ to me in in SF, home to warm and bed and food and crate with clean fresh rugs and towels.  She got right up on my bed, looking at me expectantly...she ate; a cup/w wet/with rice and pumpkin...she slept, got…

SB11 (Dogs in certain restaurant areas) under threat! HELP!

We need your help. As you may know Senator Peter Wirth has introduced SB11 (Dogs in Certain Restaurant Areas). The bill has made it through committees and now is on the Senate floor waiting for a vote. It appears to be under threat from Senator Stuart Ingle. Senator Ingle represents Portales, Roswell, Clovis and Fort Sumner.

The reason for the bill is that there is current law on the books for the state of NM that does NOT allow dogs on outdoor dining areas. Albuquerque is…

We had hoped to fix 500 cats in 2010 -- our first partial (May-December) year but fell a bit short ending with 459 sterilizations through December 31.  But since then we've fixed 114 more cats  and are now well above the 500 mark.

If you know of anyone who needs financial help getting their cats fixed,…

Two more sparkels in the sky.

The chilly winter takes its toll.  Often, I had noticed, that people who were old or ill seemed to die in late fall/early winter, before the hard weather came - or, if they made it through the winter, they would die in early spring, almost before the buds would burst.  But just as the hard winter fell on Santa Fe, both Madison and Elvis left us.

Madeson, you may remember, was the dog that we identified for rescue, last year, brought up to be the 2nd dog for a Santa Fe house-hold.  She…
