House Bill 63 (Ban on breed-specific legislation):
House Bill 63, which would prohibit counties and municipalities from enacting breed-specific laws, overwhelmingly passed the New Mexico House of Representatives on Monday.
The bill was amended to no longer include municipalities with home rule. While the…Continue
I was told today by a Mora resident that prairie dogs that are realesed in Mora get shot or as he said, "slaughtered" so it is important to find out which organization is doing this. Thank you for your help!
In spite of the horrible weather (everything in Santa Fe was covered in a thick sheet of ice and major highways were closed) there was an overflow crowd attending Lobby Day this year.
I will start at the end, because that is when David Card and his dog, Taffy, appeared at the podium. Taffy is the little dog in the dramatic “before” and “after” photos on display during the press conference. Taffy was abandoned and in terrible shape when he was adopted by David.…Continue
Meet Hope and Caleb, two beautiful siblings. They waited for a rescue or an adopter to come along in an over crowded shelter outside of Albuquerque. No one ever did. Something about these kids struck a chord with us, and we pulled them to safety. They are two young German Shepherd mix…Continue

Tiffany's right rear leg was amputated and she was spayed this past Saturday by Dr. Bob Gruda. She is currently with me and is wanting to play, so we are working on moving her to another foster home with another young cat. It didn't take her long to adjust to being on three legs, although this morning she forgot and tried to stand on two legs while washing her right paw. She quickly realized grooming will have to be done sitting down from now on.
Dr. Gruda was very…Continue

Felines & Friends accepted a young cat this week who was found with a broken leg that had healed backwards. Since it was apparently an old injury, Dr. Gruda recommended amputation. We are in need of financial help to pay for the surgery which is scheduled for today. Our surgery fund is depleted due to the two surgeries performed last year on cats with broken legs. Dr. Gruda was able to save the legs of both cats who have since been adopted.
I don’t know a single dog owner who hasn’t, at some point (or quite frequently), spent an inordinate amount of time trying to capture a stray or lost dog. I know I’ve caught more than my share in the small town, or its rural surroundings, where…Continue

My dearest friend and companion for three years was put to sleep yesterday. Chutney was 13-and-a-half which may be a good age for a dog, but she was always a puppy to me: following me around, nuzzling, playing outside. But, we never stole each other's food!
Judith, Philippe and I are very, very sad. Soon I hope we will only remember the good times. For now, we are happy that Chutney is not in pain and are sure she is peacefully sleeping in dog heaven.
