Aloysius Milagro Dog

Aloysius came to rescue a bit battered. He was picked up way out in the mountains. He had scars from what seemed like a fight with another animal. Dog, mountain lion, wolf, coyote? We do not know. It is probably a miracle that Aloysius is alive. What we do know is that Aloysius is a very loving boy. He has only kisses and wags for his fellow dogs at the kennel where he being boarded. He just loves all humans and performs "his cactus arm wiggle" on hind feet for each person that meets him. He…

Steel leg traps are a terrible way to die - Opportunity to BAN them in New Mexico

This is a coyote found in a leg trap in New Mexico 2 months ago.

One of my dogs, in her last weeks of life as she was dying of cancer, nearly got caught in a steel leg trap on the Santa Fe National Forest when we went for a final walk.  It was an illegal trap, not tagged with contact information, baited…

Finally, yes to dogs in restaurant patios!

Finally the legislation got signed by the Governor that will allow us to bring our dogs along and in to patios when we are out and about with our furry companions. You can find more of my thoughts on this topic in my blog post:

Maeve in the Fields of Bliss

To all Maeve's Human and Dog Friends, It has been just a week since Maeve left us for fields of bliss and light. Each day I feel her a little further away. Certainly not in the generous amount of fine love she left in my heart but in her energetic presence. At first, I didn't believe that she was physically gone. I kept preparing 3 chihuahua dishes for breakfast and dinner. Found myself looking outside to catch her proud little trot as she explored the natural world and waited…

TPLO Surgery in Dogs

My dog, Pete, had Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy (TPLO) surgery on April 5, 2011. After surgery, he was given a Fentanyl patch for pain relief, which delivers a consistent level of analgesia over a three-day period. Unfortunately, the Fentanyl patch can cause constipation, respiratory and circulatory…

Your Dog Is Your MIrror

Kevin Beha, Dog Trainer, Author

One whole hour on the Radio Cafe spent on talking about how dogs mirror us, fascinating. If you missed the show this morning, you can still listen to the pod cast.

Many of us likely heard about the pet-custodian connection, but I have not heard it ever explained this way.

Maine Coon Cat needs a home - Check him out!

The cat is a pretty white male domestic medium hair with a grey patch on his head and sharp yellow eyes.  He has been hanging around our house in Placitas for about 8 weeks.  I have been feeding him, and he is quite

friendly with our female cat.  The white cat comes to our door to watch us and visits with us…

Sadly, from today's paper:

Dog recovering from arrow-tip wound

A dog shot point-blank in the head with an arrow and also shot in the leg with a weapon appears to be recovering from her injuries.

A Santa Fe animal shelter veterinarian tending to what was thought to be a leg fracture discovered the head injury Monday when the 2-year-old dog was brought into the shelter's Spay/Neuter & Wellness Clinic.

Carolyn Fletcher removed the three-blade hunting arrow from the dog…

Maeve Has Left Us

To all Maeve’s kind and generous friends. Little Maeve left our lovely planet Earth at 1:17 this morning. She tried as hard as she was able to recover and live. Meave was healing well after surgery. She was released from intensive care at The Emergency Clinic To the Ark yesterday. Later in the day, her temperature, sugar, and protein levels dropped. Maeve returned to The Emergency Clinic for what was to be her last night. I was fortunate to be with Maeve from 6PM until her death in the early… Continue
