Online Lost Pets Bulletin Board

My sister Karen and I put up a website for posting lost or found pets.

Santa Fe Lost Pets:

There seem to be fewer and fewer public spaces for posting notices, so we hope that this will help fill the void. It is Karen's first attempt at a website and she did a great job!

Glad to hear that Claudia has decided to keep her list going!

Lost Chihuahua/MinPin mix

As far as we know, Finley was last seen running east on St. Michael's median, across from hospital at 6:00 pm, Wednesday, May 25th. But another potential sighting of him occurred heading east off Galisteo (perhaps Rose Park area).  Small (12 pounds), black & brown - looks like a cross between a chihuahua and a mini-pinscher. He was wearing his collar with ID & contact information, but not sure if collar stayed on him. Very sweet and probably scared. Very much missed. Please contact us… Continue

Needs someone who can spend some time with her, give her enough exercise and attention. We look forward to shaping her up into a very adoptable dog - but we need help!  Thank you - Dew Paws Rescue.…

Aloysius, Teddy, and Faire Beauty Need Vet Care

I want to begin by thanking every person who has helped with Maeve's veterinary bills. I do not have everybody's address. However, I have been carrying around thank you cards, with messages written, for over a month for all addresses I do have. Forgive me, all has been very hectic. I will mail the notes this weekend. It is not for lack of gratitude, just time.

Today is a very sad day for me and the rescuers that I work closely with. I was told yesterday that the…

Experts warn of herpes risk to area horses

By Staci Matlock/The New Mexican

The New Mexico State Livestock Board and the state veterinarian are warning horse owners to avoid traveling with their equines for the next seven days to prevent the spread of a deadly herpes virus that has already killed one horse in the state.

State Veterinarian Dave Fly also is recommending all major horse events in the next seven to 10 days be rescheduled.

One Albuquerque-area horse died of acute paralysis from a neurologic…

Officer shoots, kills dog during arrest

By Geoff Grammer/The New Mexican

All Chico knew was that some men he didn't know were acting aggressively toward his master.

The full-grown, gray pit bull apparently did what many dogs would do. He tried to protect his owner.

The problem was Chico's owner, 22-year-old Jose Ramos, was being arrested at the time by a Santa Fe County sheriff's detective.

So when the dog leapt out of the bed of Ramos' 1971 Chevrolet pickup toward police in the 900 block…

Steven Kotler of Rancho de Chihuahua rescue in Chimayo - tonight 6-8 at Santa Fe Complex

Think you know dog?  Think again.

Do dogs believe in God? Do they have mystical experiences? Science has taught us some pretty curious things about four-legged companions lately and the answers to these questions are just the beginning. In the past 30 years, researchers have turned much of what we thought we knew about dogs on its head, along the way upending quite a few assumptions about our own species as well. For example,…

Seen - Black Shar-pei male up and down Stagecoach Drive all day today.

This dog has been seen up and down Stagecoach Drive (off Bishops Lodge) all day today. He is black (with brownish undertones in the light) has a square head with wrinkles, a tail that curls and a dark collar (no tags). He's the size of a small Lab, but very stocky. He came into the open door of my kitchen to get water from the dog dish twice, but quickly left as I went toward him. I put food out for him and he returned and ate it. He was very wary. I tried calling him, but he ignored me and… Continue

Update on Premarin Mares, May 4, 2011

I first reported on the arrival of four PMU mares (used in the production of Premarin) back in December 2010. They are doing fine! Ranch manager Debra Martin is a good match-maker. She put Black Rose in the same paddock with Midnight (a gelding). The two are now inseparable friends.

Here are some photos I took on May 4, 2011.…

TEMPORARY Foster Home Needed for SFAS Dog

I am looking for a temporary foster home for Sabina starting around May 13. She is also available for adoption.

Sabina is a very sweet but shy Doberman mix from the Santa Fe Animal Shelter. She is in foster care because she is initially very shy and takes a bit of time to warm up to new people and get…

Ginger needs a foster home - fast.

Ginger is a "Meredith" looking dog, also from the Gallup/Grants area.  Another dog off the Navajo Nation with pups.  The pups have been placed, now mom needs a place to go.  The shelter is packed and we all know what that means. She looks to be about 1-year old, probabaly first heat - first litter. She has been completly medically vetted and is ready to go.  The foster where she is now has a 2-dog limit per home and risks eviction (yup, you heard me right) if she does not "loose" this dog in…
