Chablis: Summer experiences

I went to Zona del Sol's summer camp where Judith read her latest book in a series about Chloe, a little girl in a wheelchair and Nito, her wonderful assistance dog. "Nito and Chloe Love Carrots" is all about eating healthy foods and the pictures by Sue Blackburn are really cute. All the kids loved talking about food and their favorite things to eat. They knew a lot about healthy food, even for dogs. Then we went to the Church of the Holy Faith where Judith read her book to the younger kids.…

Rescue Sabbatical

At this time, Dew Paws Rescue will not be able to accept any new dogs or cats into our rescue program.  We are full beyond capacity and are glutted with hard-to-place dogs, and dogs with medical issues. Please do not contact us about dogs or cats in need unless you want a referral to another rescue organization. …

Calsbad Rescue, The Horse Shelter, July, 2012

Two horses starved to death before the remaining six horses were rescued in Carlsbad, New Mexico. The two mares, two fillies and a stallion who survived were too weak to travel and were given a month to recover before being transported to The Horse Shelter.

All six horses are now at The Horse Shelter. They are still thin, but they are gaining weight and vitality.

I took these photos on Monday, July 23, 2012.…

"Dime" needs a rescue - foster - or adoption!

Female Pit/Bloodhound mix, 8 months old, about 50 lbs (will get a little bigger), nice dog. Needs foster home - immediately - having elbow stress problems on the concrete in the shelter. Also breed concern about this young, high energy dog being confined with no "program" for too long may take away any chance she has of becoming a candidate for adoption. Is there any local ABQ…

Rattlesnake Bite

It is snake bite season.  Our own "Misty" Herrera was bitten by a rattlesnake yesterday afternoon up in Colonias just outside of Pecos.  She was bitten on the foreleg, and it started to swell up considerably.  After IV fluids, pain meds, antibiotics and antivenin, she is doing well today.  If your pet has been bitten by a rattlesnake, seek veterinary attention immediately. Don't try to apply any tourniquets, bandaging or give your pet any oral medications-just get your pet to a veterinarian…

Chablis: Summer

Judith and Philippe say these are the "dog days of summer". One of those human statements I just don't understand. Another one: "it's raining cats and dogs". I have never seen cats and dogs falling from the sky. Have you? Anyway, I love being in the courtyard where I stay cool and can smell the…

Home Needed for Sweet Siamese

Cisco is a sweet tortie point Siamese mix who was abandoned with two other cats about a year ago at Petco.    We assume they were subjected to years of poor diet as they all had digestive issues.    Now that Cisco is if fed only Wellness grain free canned food with a supplement added and no dry food, she is doing great.   However, she is need of a foster or permanent home as soon as possible.  If you are able to help, please let Felines& Friends know a.s.a.p.

Some people just have no clue....

This  ad was on craigs list here in Santa Fe under PETS this afternoon, it is now gone, most likely flagged for being prohibited, no breeding or animal sales allowed on craigs list....clueless....and this person should have stayed in school and learned how to spell instead of BREEDING more dogs:

Hello my mini dashaund will be in heat in 2 weeks and I have her a stud male and will be breeding her. She is 1 and a half…

Chablis: Shopping

I kind-of like shopping. Judith says I am easier to take along than Philippe. We went into a store and there was a dog that looked just like me. I sat down and the other dog sat down. I lay down and the other dog lay down. My goodness, the "other" dog was me! Then Judith explained about mirrors.

The Horse Shelter Works with Kindred Spirits Animal Sanctuary to Help Horses, July, 2012

In July, 2012, two long-time residents of The Horse Shelter, Ginger and Jack, found a new home at Kindred Spirits Animal Sanctuary. Kindred Spirits is dedicated to providing end-of-life care for older, unwanted dogs, horses and poultry in a sanctuary setting.

I went to visit Ginger and Jack in their new home on Saturday, July 7. I found a peaceful environment filled with happy dogs, cats, horses, ducks, roosters chickens and peacocks. Every detail of life at Kindred Spirits is geared…

Sid Needs Help - HW Pos - Treatment Costs!

Interesting what you know and what you don't.  So, what I learned is that Sid is not shedding microfilari at this time.  He may only have 3/4 worms in him because its one worm per mosquito bite.  He is not showing any signs of the "advanced" disease, and so, we may have caught it early - however - there is no way of knowing how long he has been infected. He does have it and the…

From Chablis: My 4th of July

Chutney and I had french toast as a special treat for breakfast. Later I thought about it: French toast on American Independence Day? Oh well, at least it wasn't an English muffin. We went to the Plaza and I wore a special bandanna that looked like the American flag. I like celebrations.
