Looking for a home for Penelope

My name is Penelope I’m looking for a new home

I am a very happy and social dog. I love being around people and I want to know everyone. I am a good companion. Even though I’m older now, I still run and play and box with things on the ground, like soccer players do. The veterinarian looking at me the other day thought I was maybe 6 and I am probably 10! He answered because of my energy, I think.

I…

Chihuahua STILL MISSING

It may have been Paco who was spotted near Baca Street and Cerrillos, sometimes heading towards Agua Fria. If you live in this area, would you please keep an eye out for a stray tan and white chihuahua? Thank you!!!

August 4, 2010 at The Horse Shelter

The following photos show volunteer Sandi Jackson introducing Dhyana to Shadow. You may notice a few rain drops in the photos, but horse and rider remained calm and focused during a brief shower. Shadow has only been ridden a few times and is at the very beginning of her training. If Dhyana decides to adopt her, they will have plenty of time to learn together!…

Lost my little dog 8/4/10 near Devargas Mall

She is about 1 y/o. Her name is Georgie. She wasn't wearing her collar with her tags. This is the first time she has ever left the yard, and I think somebody picked her up. She's very friendly. She loves going for "rides" in the car, so she would have easily jumped in. She lives on Villeros St., right behind the Devargas Mall. Please help! Thank… Continue

FOR DAISY

There have been two escapes from 2 separate local kennels/boarding/pet facilities in the last few weeks, involving 3 dogs, one of which died as a result.

Before you board your dogs, PLEASE do some homework.

Check the kennel thoroughly. Take a tour; get a feel of the place. If it doesn’t feel right, TRUST YOUR INSTINCTS!

Ask your friends who have animals, your veterinarian, your groomer, talk to… Continue

LOST Tan and White Chihuahua!

My chihuahua, Paco, ran away from home--Camino Militar and Upper Canyon Road area--on Friday, 7/30. He was NOT wearing his collar, he likes to eat compost, and he is very friendly. He is tan with a white chest, white paws, pointy ears, and a curly tail. I am sick about losing him and would welcome a phone call if you have seen him. Call 301-758-9686 please. Thank you. (I cannot seem to upload a photo but have included it on my page)

*!!!* FOUND *!!!*

From Nathan:

August 4, 2010

FOUND! Two young saints found him wandering the dog park while we were hiking the arroyos. He's skinny but seems healthy otherwise. We're giving him water, slowly feeding him some wet food and will be taking him to the vet soon to make sure he's okay.

THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH! I can't even begin to describe how relieved we are and how thankful we are for everyone. We've learned two…

Senior Female Black lab

Senior black lab named Lukas was abandoned on August 6th 2010 and is in need of a foster or forever home as soon as possible. Owners moved and refused to take her with them. Please help me save her from going to the shelter. She is a mellow girl and is always smiling and wagging her tail. She is spayed and all shots are up to date. She lived with 2 young children and a cat. Lukas loves to go for walks and is very good on a leash. She knows how to shake, sit, and lay down on command. Contact… Continue

6-year old Blk Lab Fem needs Foster

Lisa Mudgett from 2 Can Rescue Inc. a 501c3 animal welfare group, took on a senior female black lab who is a victim of "I am moving and cant take her" after 6 years. We thought she had a foster but it may have fallen through and now the owners will be moving out of the house this week and have nowhere for her. The owners friend may not be able to foster her and my fosters are at capacity right now. Can any one help or know anyone who would be willing to help this poor girl.? She is Lukas. 7… Continue

Scoop article in the Sunday paper

I was disappointed to read the scoop article on Jane Goodall in Sunday's paper. Jane Goodall is busy writing to NIH to try to help save the Alamogordo chimps from being returned to cruel research studies while she is working in Uganda with orphan chimps, and this article on Sunday did not even mention anything about what is going on in our own (downstate) backyard with the chimps. I don't think Jane would like that!

STICK INDUCTED INTO THE NATIONAL TOY HALL OF FAME - OLD, GOOD NEWS

IN THE MEADOW where our dog loves to run, you'll find slash piles of deadfall - broken limbs, twigs, branches - piled in neat mounds awaiting snow deep enough to make burning the debris safe. Gathering the wood may seem like work, and for the volunteers who do it, it is. But it's also child's play, reminding us of when we built forts from discarded lumber, or pretended to be beavers, piling sticks into wigwam like structures, scrambling on our knees… Continue

Deer Alert - Bishops Lodge Road

Two very playful and young deer parading on Bishops Lodge Road between Fort Marcy and Stagecoach heading north. It appears they know cars and people are dangerous as they move out of the way quickly. However, they do not appear to have an adult parent guiding them back to the mountains. They did not pose for photos so just use your imagination. They appeared to be about 4 ft in height. Please drive safely and pass this alert forward. Thank you.
