Due to the high number of intakes of animals struggling with the drought, we have been receiving a good deal of positive press. In addition to the numerous starving bears that are being housed at the off-site facility, we have taken in raptors and other mammals in the same situation. Here…Continue
Rusty's owner died and he ended up in the pound. Because he was 12-years old no one wanted him. We did and took him into rescue. He found a home, but then, we realized that he had some issues that had probabaly never been addressed by his original owner. Rusty has some separation anxiety and he needs some toileting training. He will go "outside" every-time, but he will also go inside. His family are a working couple and so the dog is in the house during the day (with another dog). As much as…Continue
Please help us save these 3 wonderful dogs from euthanization due to overcrowding in Arteis, NM. We are a group of Rescue people with a shortage of foster space. Can you help? We will deliver Rider, Rudy, or Jacy at no cost to you -- we simply need a short term foster home. We have successful adoption events every weekend that we would be taking them to. You would be saving their precious lives...all vet care and spay/neuter will be done by us...all we need is a little room in your home and…Continue

In 2010, I started up a lost pet alert for Santa Fe. I'm sorry that the email address for the alert list is a bit misleading, I do send out notices for lost cats as well even though the address is firstname.lastname@example.org.
I now have over 200 members on this email list, including the Veterinary Emergency Clinic as well as several other vet clinics in town, several employees of the SFASHS as well as a couple of…

Are vets scanning for microchips? The vets sell the microchips, but do they make it a practice to scan EVERY new animal patient brought to their office? How can we get vets to make it part of the routine for every new patient?
The happy story of Caesar the Maltese dog returned to his Michigan owners shows that shelters scan for chips. Possibly, the dog might have been recovered sooner. The Albuquerque Journal reported this:
"Mike Martinez, Animal Control…Continue

Our rescue dog Jellybean came with the skill of retrieving. She loves running and chasing balls and birds and brings the ball back each time. In the house she does this with her stuffed animals. She just loves to have fun!

On Sunday July 24, 2011, I had the good fortune to encounter a friend I haven’t seen for a couple of years. The pleasure was especially sweet because my friend is healthy, happy and successful after going through some very rough times. My friend happens to be a little horse (a pony really) named Molly who under the guidance of trainer Katrin Silva has learned the graceful dance called dressage. It was thrilling to see Molly prance with neck arched, in beautiful, fluid motion. Molly has…Continue
