Poisoned pigeon found around Plaza

A pigeon with symptoms of poisoning was found in the area of the Plaza today. He was picked up from the rescuer by a local wild bird rescue in Santa Fe. Unfortunately the bird died before it could make it to the rehabber. Whether or not pigeons were the target of those who put out poison they, along with other species in the food chain become victims. A poisoned pigeon will be eaten by raptors, other predator birds and cats, to name a few.

Whenever there is one poisoned bird, there… Continue

The Horse Shelter, September 27, 2010

When Jericho first came to The Horse Shelter he was afraid of people and nobody could get near him. In time Jericho learned that people weren't so bad after all. He became one of our friendliest and most dependable horses. Now Jericho has been adopted. We wish him good luck in his new home!

Gift From A Terrier

Gift From A Terrier – By Susan R. Stoltz 2010

We had walked this park many times in our past, Sharkey and I. There were benches every quarter mile or so, a lovely view of the river and open blue sky above. There is nothing like a Montana sky. It was lovely to walk it once again, only this time without a limp or a crutch.…

Paco's Ordeal

Thank you, well-wishers and dog lovers. Yes, it does give one hope. But I think that what happened to Paco is that he was picked up by someone soon after he ran away. He was very clean when I bathed him, perfectly fit in the belly, and without any major or minor cuts/scrapes. So yes, because he is so darn cute and didn't have a collar on, I guess that someone housed him for a while and then he got loose again--or they discovered that he has seizures! He's not chipped, so I don't know if they… Continue

Paco, our beloved chihuahua mix wandered home today looking healthy and happy, though somewhat hesitant. He was missing since July 30th! He is the message of hope and patience. Thank you to all who were concerned about his safety. He is getting plenty of love and will no longer be an outdoor dog. Safety has been the lesson for the human.

FOUND! Cadbury, safe and sound!

We have wonderful news this afternoon- Cadbury, the 10wk old Chihuahua puppy who was stolen from an adoption fair on Saturday- has been found! He was dumped in someone's yard who brought him into the Santa Fe Animal Shelter without having heard of his ordeal. Shelter receiving staff recognized him and called up to Espanola where we immediately went down to confirm that it was our little boy.

While our initial reports stated that… Continue

NEVER give up hope if your animal is lost - Here is a LOCAL story of HOPE

Pearl Socks, the cat, was lost in February 2009 down in the Cerrillos area off of Highway 14.

The owner repeatedly checked with Feline and Friends and the Animal Shelter, to no avail.

Yesterday, the owner checked online again, and there he was, listed on the shelter web site.

She and her son drove over to the shelter just to see and it was indeed their long-lost cat!

Pearl Socks, lost from the village of… Continue

I found out on Sunday that one of my bassamations was stolen from the Springer or Las Vegas area about "5 to 6" months ago. The adopters never told us and we never would have known if I hadn't bumped into them.

Wilt is 15 months old now. He's neutered and microchipped. His chip # is AKC 006CC9521. I am sening Stolen flyers to all the vets in the area in hopes that whoever took him will eventually seek vet care for him. Please let anyone in that part of the state know I am looking for… Continue

STOLEN: Chihuahua Puppy

Yesterday at the pet adoption event at the Auto Park, a puppy was stolen by a woman and small child. The puppy was just recovered from parvo and will be shedding the virus for some time, meaning that he is potentially spreading the disease even though he appears well. He is 10 weeks old, microchipped and neutered. This puppy can be returned to any vet clinic in Santa Fe, the Santa Fe Animal Shelter, or the Espanola Valley Humane Society's drop box… Continue

with my dogs on bike

With temperatures a bit cooler biking with my dogs gains in attraction. Sumo-boy will do a little chase-a-tail round dance in expectation of a good run. He will be the one to pull me and my Isabella-girl ahead. This guy is nothing like me, he needs and looks forward to his runs.

My Isabella-girl on the other hand needed a bit convincing to give up her sniffing orgies in favor of running past all those favorite spots of hers. But she is coming along nicely these days and both stay… Continue

stray cats

I have discovered that the stray cats that live in my area has kittens. I need to borrow cat traps from someone to catch the older kittens I've caught three of the tinyier kittens. I'm not sure where I will send them ild hate to see them be put to sleep therefore I havent taken them to any shelters yet. They are well socialized to my cat which was a stray. Is there any free spray and neauter programs in santa fe ?

Help Needed

I need help! Just over a year ago I sold a beautiful Thoroughbred mare to a family in California who wanted a good broodmare. Last week I received an email saying they wanted to sell her as she had become an angry, dangerous horse. If they don't find her a home soon they will euthanize her! This gorgeous creature left here a loving, wonderful horse that wanted nothing more than to be with you and get hugs and kisses. She has had several beautiful babies that went on to successful show careers.… Continue

Wire Crates Needed for TNR Ops.

Howdy folks,

DPR needs (temporary) donations of med/large & large wire crates, preferably the ones that are collapsible vs the ones you have to put together with strait rods, but we'll take those if you have them to lend!

We are assisting with a TNR operation and will return them when the cats are re-released. We are already finding some that are friendly and will make good candidates for adoption! There is a litter of 5/6 week old kittens we are trying to trap-up (we… Continue
