Please take five minutes to help chimpanzees who face more lab torture!

Urgent! Gorgeous Aussie/Border Collie mix needs loving, active home

Hi scoopers...

I have lost my job as a consultant at the lab (quite unexpectedly due to a reorg in the environmental program!) and will be moving in about 6 weeks... I am looking for a loving, active home for my beautiful girl Angel... a blue merle Aussie with maybe some Border collie too... she's a little taller and longer than a pure bred Aussie, but looks just like one.

She is very beautiful... the first thing everyone says when they see her is "Wow! How beautiful!"…

Another Successful Adoption at The Horse Shelter

Paco came to The Horse Shelter in October, 2010, with five other quarter horses all of whom were thin and neglected. One year later, October 2011, Paco was adopted by Rodeo Queen, Sara Czmyrid, who plans to train him as a barrel racer. Congratulations to Paco and Sara! Here are some photos of Paco working with Horse Shelter trainer, Tom Larson.…

A message from an animal control officer

CindyR forwarded this to me.  It made me laugh, and empathize.  It's from the Best of Craigslist, originally posted a few years ago.

Bandit the Border Collie fresh from Artesia!

This sweet guy was saved today from the Artesia Shelter thanks to Paws & Claws Humane Society and Dew Paws Rescue. He is 10 months old, very mature for his age, smart, trainable, loyal (I've known him for several hours and he is my BFF).  I picked him up in Clines Corners and I don't want to take him to…

Where are all the cats at Santa Fe Animal Shelter this week?

Since my beautiful cat Smooshie disappeared I check the SFAS website every week hoping that she will turn up. Cats have turned up there years after disappearing!

There were 17 pages of cats on the Santa Fe Animal Shelter website last week. Now there are only 13 pages. And their satellite adoption center was closed due to one cat with ringworm - or tinea - which is a harmless fungus that causes only cosmetic problems.

Where did all the cats…

Dillon Needs a Special Home

Warm and affectionate, Dillon is a special needs dog!  This 7 yr old neutered male Corgi mix developed a condition that compromised the muscles of his head, and jaw.  Dillon is playful and loves to go for walks but needs a home with someone who will take the time to ensure he gets his daily nutrition!  As a temporary or permanent companion Dillon will thrive with a person who has time to give him the attention and affection he craves.

Even as a foster…

If you have your dogs in the car during a traffic stop..

Having seen videos in the past on television of dogs killed by police officers during traffic stops, I asked the instructor of a class for the Santa Fe Citizens' Police Academy what to do in this situation.
Circumstances can vary, but remain still in the vehicle until the officer approaches/contacts you. If the dog(s) is crated, there should not be an issue. If not, ask the officer if you can restrain or otherwise control your dog. Depending on the dog's…

Medically Frail and Elder Dogs in Need of Foster, Adoption, and Financial Support.

Dew Paws Rescue has not been in the game very long but in our time have managed to collect several elder and/or medically needy dogs.  We love working with these dogs but the reality is that they are expensive and they are not easily adopted out, though we have had a pretty good track record on many Sr. dogs we have taken.  The ones in the system right now are a mixed bag.

Article on Lost Cats to Use in Media

A friend in Maine wrote this article for her local paper to raise awareness that a stray cat might really be someone's lost pet. She says it is great if others modify and republish in other places. So, if you can use this to help raise awareness, please do so.

Well-meaning But Misguided Responses To Finding a “Lost” Cat

When outdoor pets go missing in the fall, the owners’ first fearful thought is that a predator got the animal, as coyotes, bobcats,…
