Big Request for Help Today

12-year old pug may have had a stroke.  The 2-dogs are in a rescue friendly foster home, in Clovis, waiting for transport to Santa Fe, where we have a foster home ready for them. But, today the Clovis foster reports behavior in the Pug that leads us to believe she is having a medical event that requires veterinary care.  Unfortunately, the only Veterinary care the dog can receive in that area will be at full cost and pay before you leave the office.  I know everyone is strapped beyond normal…

Help needed for HW positive dog.

Cody is an 80 lb hound mix male, found in the "bad-lands" between Nambe and Chimayo.  He was near death, sunken eyes, skin-on-bones thin; but the lady who picked him up brought him to Cottonwood Clinic in Espanola.  In the week she's had him hes come around considerably, been on heart and other meds to tamp-down the inflammation, and will start fast-kill heart worm treatment on Monday. We are reaching out on their behalf for three kinds of support:

      (1) We need a heavy gage…

Chablis: Fashion

I was wearing  my vest and we were ready to go. Then Judith noticed that she didn't have pockets in either her jacket or slacks. That, apparently, is the new fashion. Major problem! Where to put my treats.

So, Judith put them in a little plastic sack, but said it was a nuisance because they kept dropping-out (I was very happy to pick them up!).

Anyway, fashion is not a problem for me. I have collars for every occasion and right now have my one for Fall. Happy Thanksgiving…

No protesters, just 1 kill at NM coyote contest

By Associated Press

ALBUQUERQUE — Only one coyote had been shot so far and no protesters showed up Saturday at a New Mexico gun shop sponsoring a coyote hunting contest this weekend that set off howls of protests from animal activists.

In fact, television and radio reporters milling in the shop's parking lot were the biggest problem the hunt created, said Rick Gross, business manager of Gunhawk Firearms in Los Lunas.

Animal activists and the state's trust land…

November, 2012 at The Horse Shelter

We had some beautiful sunny days at the beginning of the month so here are photos of horses with their human friends enjoying the weather. I have also included a photo of Sage in her new home.

There is one sad story to tell this month. The thin brown horse did not survive. On a brighter note Tibor (who was very thin and sad looking just a couple of months ago) has become a robust and magnificent fellow.…

Cody needs fast-kill heart worm treatment $$ support!

A rescue angel picked this dog up in the "no mans land" between Espanola and Chimyo.  He was thin and shy but went right into her car.  He looks like a hound-mix, male, about 80 lbs.  Age judged to be around 2-years. She brought him to Cottonwood clinic for a check up and found that he is filled with heart worm, so badly, that it has already started to affect his lungs. He is on meds to reduce…

Chablis: Going to the Lensic

A few weeks ago I went to the Lensic Theatre with Judith to see "Of Mice and Men". I got myself comfortable when Alex, who is a stage manager, came over and said to Judith that there would be a gun shot 57 minutes into the first act and another at the end of the second. He didn't want me to be scared. Then two of the Ambassadors/Ushers came and said the same thing. They were so nice and thoughtfu to do thatl. Judith was proud of me because I hardly moved when the guns went off. But, I am an…

Election

We went to vote today and I wore a red, white and blue bandanna. I got a sticker for my vest that said "I voted today" which wasn't quite true. Judith says it's a nail-biter whatever that means!
