Transporting 4 dogs from Las Vegas to Colorado

Maureen with Animal Welfare Coalition sent out an email last week needing help transporting 4 dogs from the Las Vegas AS to Longmont. I happened to be driving to Denver last week and took Lady, Abby, George, and Dexter to CO (BTW George is a pit mix - Longmont takes pits!!!). LVAS is still overwhelmed with too many animals and not enough adopters. I met 2 great and dedicated LVAS employees who do all they can for the dogs on a very tight budget.… Continue

Foster dogs, Santana and Sadie

Both dogs are still available! If any of you know of anyone looking for pet companions please pass this on. I'm fostering Santana (shepherd) and Sadie (lab) in Santa Fe. Both are females about a year old. Both are very "other dog" friendly and would do great in a home with another dog. Santana was close to being euthanized because the small NM shelter needed space for new dogs coming in. Dew Paws Rescue stepped in and gave her another chance. Sadie is… Continue

Found male Shepherd near Siringo, can't catch

This male shepherd mix has been living in the Siringo-Rail Trail area for weeks or months. He has been reported to Animal Services and they tried to trap him back when he was on high school property with no luck. Two friends, Sue and Tracy have been working on building trust and he'll get maybe 5 feet from them, but then any move will make him bolt. He's very smart. I saw him yesterday and he seemed to want to play with my foster dog Santana but was… Continue

Another "stray" horse on the Caja needs help

I came across this horse on the Caja del Rio today and it's likely he was abandonded there. The Livestock Board inspector said more horses are being abandonded on public lands because the nearest slaughter house was shut down. He was on the 24 Road 1/2 mile south of the cinder pit, not far from the Horse Park. The inspector had another report of this horse and the permittees are going to try catch him tomorrow. If caught the inspector posts him for a… Continue

Border Collie fell out of truck near Cuba and broke front legs....

A cross-country bicycle rider came across a young Border Collie who had apparently fallen out of the back of a truck near Cuba and had broken both front legs. She and her husband took the dog to a vet in Grants and Dr Frank Anderson has done the surgery to fix her legs. She now needs a foster or permanent home to get her all healed up and on with her life. The entire story from Kathy, the bike rider is pretty heart wrenching (and thanks Sloan for passing this on). She's from out of state and… Continue
