Gracie and I are home after a 6 week journey. Gracie played in the Arkansas River, visited new friends in Savannah, Georgia, where she learned about squirrels. Also, in Savannah, she learned a lot about being on a leash downtown, where they have parks with squirrels and horse drawn carriages. She also learned about behaving in hotels, dog friendly restaurants, and movie theatres. She saw the river walk and the Savannah River.
And, she became the new mascot for the Savannah Film Festival and is invited back next year.
On our way to Lakeland, Florida, where Gracie stayed with my daughter and granddaughters while I went to work in the Dominican Republic, we stopped on Amelia Island where she got to run and play on the beach. This was her first time seeing an ocean and she loved it!
In Lakeland, she slept with my granddaughter, Anika, and found out that their fenced in backyard has large trees and squirrels.
On our way home, we discovered that Mississippi beaches are not dog friendly. But, they do have parks with squirrels. Gracie also experienced staircases, and elevators. She does not like elevators.
On the final day of our journey we stopped in San Antonio where Gracie paid her respects at "The Shrine Of Texas Liberty".
We're now home. She was very excited to see that our journey brought us back here. She is running around inside and out, barking (now that she can) and playing with her squeeky ball.
This was an incredible journey for both of us.
It could not have happened without the help and support from many of you who are probably reading this and I just have to say thank you so very much, once again. I am forever thankful for this miracle.

It was truly a miracle, Alix, and it wasn't even Christmas, yet!
I'm sure she'll get lots of gifts, people keep giving her boxes of treats. She thinks she's a star, and I can't argue a bit.
I'll give her an extra kiss!

Intriguing to say the least!

Bill, Julie is a deep deep still water! I am also constantly amazed at what she does...all we have seen of her are a few surface ripples, I think we'd all be astonished and inspired at what lies below!!!!!

Great picture, Julie! They just go cuckoo for the squirrels. I think the squirrels like iot too. That's why they're in the dog park, just to tease!
And what a story about Sadie! You certainly do an incredible amount of the good work with dogs. I'm constantly amazed.

Here's my dog Kisha tree climbing at the Chatfield Dog Park in Denver. Why would squirrels live at a dog park? Also shown is Sadie, a dog I fostered for the SF shelter in 2003. This was the first time I'd seen her in 5 years! I had my reservations about her relocating to Durango, she was so shy. She escaped on her drive back to her new home and I ended up driving to Pagosa Spgs to catch her. But WHO KNEW?! It was a tough first few weeks, but it turned out she found that perfect someone for her. Much like the latest Sadie and Claudia's friend.

Ay yi! Gracie never got that far up a tree! Her job in Lakeland, she thought, was to keep the squirrels out of the yard. As soon as she got up in the morning, she would station herself outside on a little hill and chase squirrels for 4 hours! The afternoon was then spent lounging around.

Yup, funny indeed when they climb trees to go after is Nita in Boulder earlier this year :)

Wow, what a lucky dog! Isn't it funny to take Santa Fe dogs to places with tree squirrels???? My dogs go nuts when we visit Denver and there's like 5 squirrels in every tree.

And, I should add, Gracie is thankful, too.
