Santa Fe Scoop

Hi everyone. We are renewing our effort to find Pepper, who was adopted in December but ran off from his new owner Dec. 23, 2011, while on a walk on El Rancho Road near West Alameda. We have had many sightings, but no luck in catching this fearful and shy dog. We are hoping to mimic Steve's success in finding Zorro by narrowing down Pepper's location. I put an ad in today's New Mexican (Free!) and then used Pet Amber Alert to call about 500 people in the area. The service has been awesome and they even generated a poster, which I will attach here. I'll try to keep everyone informed about any developments. No sightings since Sunday, which is a little worrisome, but a woman called tonight to say that she was praying to Saint Francis that Pepper would find his way back home!

Shari that is a great idea.  I'm relieved to hear there are still recent sightings.  I spent some time Saturday looking around Agua Fria and Alameda. There are still some fliers there and there is one posted at Allsup's on St Mike's too.

Ben - I read previously that Pepper was close to a lady shelter worker. If you haven't already, perhaps placing her scent in the traps will help. That's what it took to get Madison.

Shari - Pepper still had the harness and leash on.  My husband saw him last night at around 9pm. The time before was at 11:30pm.  I think a trap could be set in this neighborhood.  I'm thinking that I will at least leave a bowl of water in front of my house.

Joan, does he still have the harness/leash on? And was your husband's most recent sighting around the same time as before? Thanks to you both for keeping the searchers posted.

My husband just saw Pepper again!  He is in the Casa Allegre neighborhood (off San Jose Ave and Cerrillos).  This is where he saw him January 18th.  He tried to catch him again but the dog is very skittish.

I keep looking and thinking of him.  Where is this poor dog?  I've only seen a few signs up around town.  More signs are needed.

I hiked around the open space north of Alameda again today.  The trap is now gone.  Any update anyone?

Thank you for that update Joan.  Hearing where your husband saw him, I wondered if he headed back to the open space off Alameda again.  I walked around there again today and found the couch Pepper had been seen sleeping on a few weeks ago and was glad to see a trap set there with food and water.  No Pepper, yet, as of noon today.  Let's hope for a new sighting soon, or better yet, Pepper in the trap!

My husband just told me that he saw Pepper last night (Tuesday 1/17) on Osage and Agua Fria at about 11:15pm.  He tried to catch him but he couldn't get within 30 ft of him.

It's hard to tell from the photo how big Pepper is. I'm picturing him as medium-size, ~45lbs. Is that correct?
