The horse situation is very real in Montana as well. Even if you someone who is not around horses a lot like me, you hear the stories. This group has really made a difference up here. http://missoulapets.com/index.php/pets-in-the-news/19-petnews/265-t... ..... thought it might be worth a post.
Comment by Julie L on January 4, 2011 at 8:34pm That website is great how it lines out the responsibilities, time, and money a person is in for if they get a horse. It is a big commitment. Ever put any more thought into renting out Murphy for weed control? :-)
Comment by CindyR on January 4, 2011 at 8:19pm It's a horrible situation Julie. The horse rescues are bursting at the seams. Taking on a horse or two is a HUGE responsibility (both physically and financially) as you can imagine! That alone reduces the number of possible/valid homes.
Come see Nova anytime!! She would love the company. (actually, Murphy likes the company even more!!)
Comment by Julie L on January 4, 2011 at 8:12pm Thank you for the link Cindy. I didn't realize the issues with too many horses until I found one left out on the Caja last year and heard from the livestock inspector how more people have been dumping them or selling them to Mexico where they become people or dog food. They are such amazing creatures. If I had the space and time I'd take one in if I could.
