This is a very sad case of animal abuse and there may never be justice for this dog.
A dog was shot in January and his hind legs were paralyzed. He dragged and chewed off his legs over 4 months, until finally someone brought the dog to the Espanola Animal Shelter.
Public outcry over the guys who killed a dog with a chainsaw in front of children outside of Farmington helped to push the prosecuters to pursue the case.

A community can make a difference. Animal cruelty should be more than a misdeamor. Thankfully the woman eventually took the dog to get help, but to wait 4 months and watch this dog suffer is wrong.

I was appalled to hear about the dog who was shot and paralyzed and suffered for months, dragging himself around and chewing off his legs.
You can call it ignorance or wishful thinking, but ultimately this is completely irresponsible and cruel to let an animal suffer like this for 4 months.
How could a person look the other way when witnessing this suffering? Please pursue the offenders and criminal charges. This behavoir should not be ignored.
A message should be sent to the community that animal abuse will not be tolerated in Rio Arriba County.
Please do the right thing.
