Thank you AKC for the names, numbers and support!

House Bill 63 (Ban on breed-specific legislation):

House Bill 63, which would prohibit counties and municipalities from enacting breed-specific laws, overwhelmingly passed the New Mexico House of Representatives on Monday.

The bill was amended to no longer include municipalities with home rule. While the AKC is disappointed with this amendment, we still believe this bill is an excellent step toward protecting the rights of all responsible dog owners.

The bill will now be considered by the Senate Public Affairs Committee. New Mexico residents are strongly encouraged to contact the members of the committee and respectfully ask them to support House Bill 63. The contact information is as follows:

Thanks for contacting your Representatives. Now we must contact the committee senators and our own senators.

I too will not give Denver my money by visiting there! Of course BSL can be for any breed, not just pit bulls. Elephant Butte has severe restrictions on German Shepherds, Rottweilers. Pit Bulls and all their mixes. Chows are banned in Newport RI and Huskies in Fairfield IA and Chihauhaus are restricted in Hollister Ca.

It is about people taking responsibility for their dogs!

Thanks again.

This is encouraging news!  I wrote to my Representative, Robert Trujillo and never heard back from him.  I wrote to Carl Trujillo too who support it.  I know of people who will not relocate to Denver because of this ban.  They would not want to give up their dog.  Not only is it bad for business but it makes no sense.  To assume every pit bull is vicious is like assuming every male between 18-24 is a murderer.
