rupee_photo.jpg
Dog escaped from dog boarding facility near Lone Butte on North Fork Rd on Saturday 8/15 morning (or Friday?) east of Hwy 14 and Bonanza Ck Road. She could be trying to find her way home to Cam Carlos Rey and Siringo. Yellow lab mix (orange color), 40 lbs, spayed female, 6 years old but looks younger. Wearing collar and tags (rabies and ID with phone #). Collar is mutli-color - dark. Microchipped too. VERY SHY. Owners love her dearly and are frantic to find her! Flying home early from trip to east coast.

Gracie has been there before, years ago before Sabrina put it up for sale. She seemed really conscientious and caring. She even sleeps out in the loft with the dogs at times. Gracie had a good time there and made friends with other dogs who she felt sad about leaving.
I wouldn't leave her there again, though!

We're so happy Rupee is OK. I feel it is important that we can share our experiences, good or bad, related to local pet businesses. I feel we need to state the facts as we know them and be sure we are open and up front about how we draw our conclusions. Then others can listen/read. They can call the business owners and ask the questions and hear both sides. There’s no central resource that I am aware of to find this information on a pet business. Better Business Bureau logs complaints filed against a business, but many people don’t know that’s an option.

Obviously a boarding kennel is trusted to keep your pet confined and healthy while you are away. For some reason this did not happen in this case. We know for a fact the dog escaped. Maybe this is common for kennels but I’d think it’s a rare or never occurrence. Not to be funny but (a little levity isn’t a bad thing) the FDA sets standards for acceptable parts per million of insect parts in your cereal. As far as I know there’s no “acceptable escapes per dog kennel business” figure. So it’s up to us owners to ask those questions, and if you have an issue with a business and you have the facts, pursue it if it’s not resolved and the pet community as a whole benefits.

Another story with a happy ending. I'm just happy Rupee made it home. It would be nice to know the details of her escape ...

I had never heard of this place till yesterday....sounds to me like they need to do some serious assessment of how escape proof their place is!

"my source" says this isn't the first time.

Wow, I can't believe there are no complaints at BBB.....Cindy....are you SURE this isn't the first time? It really SHOULD be reported then.

Claudia, you are so funny! Free roam is right! The owners did check it out but where to go to find info on escape history? They are on the Better Business Bureau's website and have no complaints. I heard good things about them from other people who've used them. I haven't heard what DDR and Rupee's owners have worked out or discussed (like paying for the airfare to come home early). Hopefully DDR acknowleges the mistake openly and has a plan to ensure it doesn't happen again. If it has happened numerous times in the past, then maybe it's time for an overhaul and not just bandaids.

Wow!
I was wondering about that, Cindy! People REALLY need to check places out before they use them, I went to their web site last night, of course THEY are NOT going to post anything bthat says: "Bring your dog here, we are FREE ROAM alright, your dog will roam EVERYWHERE." :(

I think it's important to note that this is NOT THE FIRST TIME dogs have escaped from this "boarding facility" which is Dusty Dog Ranch in Lone Butte. If your dogs welfare is of importance to you, it might be a good idea to NOT use that facility.
