Steven Kotler of Rancho de Chihuahua rescue in Chimayo - tonight 6-8 at Santa Fe Complex

May 11, 2011 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm

Think you know dog?  Think again.

Do dogs believe in God? Do they have mystical experiences? Science has taught us some pretty curious things about four-legged companions lately and the answers to these questions are just the beginning. In the past 30 years, researchers have turned much of what we thought we knew about dogs on its head, along the way upending quite a few assumptions about our own species as well. For example, think humans domesticated wolves? Think again: they may have domesticated us. Think human morality is a neat trick? It now appears that our dogs taught it to us. These topics and others, as Steven Kotler, co-founder of the Rancho de Chihuahua dog sanctuary and author of A Small Furry Prayer: Dog Rescue and the Meaning of Life takes us on a wild tour of the far frontiers of canine research.  For more about the speaker:

Hey Donna... It went well... Steven (and his wife Joy) are amazing rescuers... He talked about his unusual techniques of taking his dogs on hikes in and around their property in Chimayo... Neurotransmitters in dogs and how to optimize them to bring healing to traumatized animals who've endured multiple abuses and rejections.

His book "A Small Furry Prayer: Dog Resuce and the Meaning of Life" sounds amazing and is getting great reviews on Amazon.  I ordered it but have not received it.  Pretty fascinating stories they have to tell... ever heard of a hopping coyote?
