I'm glad to to hear that the police look out for our pets. Yes, we do need to use common sense. My dogs have traveled tens of thousands of miles across the country with me in all seasons, but it sometimes hasn't been easy to make sure they weren't in harm's way. I've eaten many a meal at Sonic because I couldn't leave them in the Tahoe.... and I'm a vegetarian! Good to be on board. Leigh

Leigh, there are two off-leash dog parks here.
I'm doing a cut-and-paste here to make it easier on myself. :-) from the website http://www.ecoanimal.com/dogfun/newmexico.html

Santa Fe

* Ortiz Dog Park. This is a fabulous park, but it is not fenced. Dogs must be under voice control. An enormous chaparral with trails looping about everywhere. There are benches, waste cans, poop sacks, and water. Location: Crucitas. Directions: North on St. Francis. West on Alamo. North on Crucitas at the round-about. Pass Ortiz Park on left. Take next left (dirt) to large parking area. (Thank you Laurie Danley)
* Santa Fe Animal Shelter & Human Society. Two large FENCED areas on the site of the Santa Fe Animal Shelter and Humane Society: This is a little known off-leash area in Santa Fe offering 2 separate fenced areas for dogs. Because it is still unknown to many in Santa Fe, you may find that you and your dog(s) are the only ones there, so if you are looking for a place for playtime/socialization with other dogs, this might not be right for you. But, it is a great option for those in Santa Fe who want a FENCED area for off-leash play, as the more popular dog park in Santa Fe is not enclosed. Two parks are offered - one is for small/shy dogs, one for larger dogs. Water, benches, and waste containers are provided. Rules are posted - dogs must be licensed and current on shots, etc. Location: 100 Caja del Rio Road, Santa Fe, NM 87507 at the Santa Fe Animal Shelter and Humane Society. (Thank you Laurie Bartolo)

Oh, I wasn't offended at all by your answer.. some folks don't have a clue and need to be educated and you have no way of knowing which are which... you're very wise to assume that I didn't. As for Sonic, it's pretty horrible, but in a pinch, if you aren't vegan, the grilled cheese sandwich works. They also have some egg burrito things... just tell them to hold the meat and of course their delicacy, french toast on a stick. Not nutritous, but it will keep one from fainting from hunger... lol. No, I haven't found the off leash dog park... what's the address or cross streets? Are people good about not bringing aggressive dogs there? Leigh

We're in the same boat, although I haven't found anything at Sonic a vegetarian could eat. Perhaps they've changed the menu? I even bought a motor home so I could bring my dog Beta with us on a trip to Alaska. I figured the SUV at the time (a smaller one) would get too hot for her. Plus she loves to stretch out. Didn't mean to imply you wouldn't use common sense; just giving you a head's up. Hope you've found the off-leash dog park. It's a blessing.
